Celebrated poet Mamang Dai will be the Poet Laureate of the 14th Tata Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest.

Mamang Dai is one of India’s most evocative contemporary writers in English. Hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, the rhythm of her verse reflects the rhythms of the oral tradition of her Adi tribe, and of the natural landscape to which she is so attached. Her poetic voice, as expressed in the collections River Poems, The Balm of Time, Midsummer Survival Lyrics, and the folk tale Hambreelmai's Loom, is gentle, melodious and poignant. While her poetry can be nostalgic for passing traditions and denuded landscapes, and does not avoid the political realities and unease of the times, it is always imbued with hope and love.

Mamang Dai’s poetry ranges across all the aspects of life in the Northeast - positive and negative, political and ideological, nature and community - but is never harsh or opaque. This has been her gift to students and readers - limpid and accessible verse that lights up the beauty of the natural and cultural milieu of the Northeast, shifting the image of conflict and militancy often associated with the region.

A meticulous documenter and proponent of the social, environmental, aesthetic and culinary aspects of Arunachal Pradesh, Mamang Dai has also written a range of works of non-fiction (The Hidden Land, Mountain Harvest) and fiction (she received the Sahitya Akademi Award for her novel The Black Hill), but has described poetry as her “life-line”. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2011. She has also been a journalist across print, TV and radio, and has worked with the World Wildlife Fund in the Eastern Himalayas Biodiversity Hotspots programme.

Accepting the Poet Laureateship for Tata Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest 2023, Mamang Dai said: “I am quite overwhelmed to be invited to be the Poet Laureate of the Tata Literature Live! 2023. I think it is wonderful that Tata Literature Live! Mumbai literature festival celebrates poetry. I feel honoured, and inspired”.

Co-Director of the Festival, Quasar Thakore Padamsee said, “We are excited and honoured that Mamang Dai will be this year’s Poet Laureate at the Tata Literature Live! The Mumbai Litfest. Apart from being a distinguished poet and author, Mamang Dai has lived a life of service and commitment, having also been a journalist, a dedicated conservationist and an eminent socio-cultural chronicler. The breadth and depth of her experience will add an uplifting dimension to the Poet Laureateship of the Festival”.

Mr Harish Bhat, Brand Custodian, Tata Sons said, “We are privileged to bestow the title of Poet Laureate upon Ms Mamang Dai for the 2023 edition of Tata Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest. This recognition is perhaps one of the many accolades, including the prestigious Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi Award that adorn her illustrious life as one of the finest writers in English from Northeast India. The universality of her poems, while taking inspiration from nature, is deeply intertwined with her multifaceted experiences as a novelist, journalist, IAS officer, a woman, as well her indigenous heritage as the member of the Adi tribe. Her poems, today, are an evocative voice for the art, for women, as well as for indigenous tribes. We look forward to hosting an important voice like Ms Mamang Dai's at the festival.”

Previous Tata Literature Live Poet Laureates include renowned names like Gieve Patel, Adil Jussawalla, Javed Akhtar, K. Satchidanandan, Jayanta Mahapatra, Gulzar, Keki Daruwalla, Vikram Seth, and Joy Goswami.

“AI will disrupt everyone’s lives,” says actor Rana Daggubati

AI will disrupt everyone’s lives. You will see interactive cinema getting personalized on devices through OTT, said actor Rana Daggubati at ABP Network's The Southern Rising Summit.  He was speaking during a session titled ‘So Many Cinemas: Celebrating India's Diversity.’ The event also witnessed the presence of popular actor and director Revathy, and music composer, environmentalist and 3 times Grammy Award Winner Ricky Kej who shared their thoughts on various aspects during the Summit.

Speaking about tech enhancements such as the shift from film to digital and various facets of the filmmaking and entertainment industry, he said, “Artificial Intelligence will disrupt everyone’s lives like the Internet was very quickly applicable to us. The entertainment industry picks up tech at a very early stage. But at least in our lifetime, it is humans who will run the AI, and not AI that will run our world. You will start to see interactive cinema, and it will start to get personalized on devices through OTT. OTT is already changing the entertainment industry landscape."

Speaking on the upcoming elections in India, he observed “There was never a time when elections were different. You should choose a side you want to be on.”

Speaking during a session titled ‘India on the World Stage: Rhythm Divine’, Ricky Kej, Music Composer and Environmentalist, 3 times Grammy Award Winner said," When it comes to climate change, India is making significant strides. Concern in India on climate change is much larger than anywhere in the world. The Solar Alliance initiative taken by our government is path-breaking and PM Modi's LiFE mission is a game changer. When I won a Grammy, I was invited by the Prime Minister’s Office for 5 minutes meeting. PM Modi was fascinated by my passion for the environment and music, and encouraged me to focus completely on creating environmental consciousness and social impact with my music. This was really the push I needed.”

He added,” Today, the biggest threat humanity faces is climate change. Addressing environmental challenges is all about individual actions. We always talk about changing the world but we don’t want to change ourselves. The golden question is how we can take concrete actions within our times and what difference it can make. This is what I want to share through the emotional language of music.”

Versatile actor and director Revathy shared her experience of acting and film-making in the session titled 'Time Traveller- 40 Years on the Big Screen.' She said," I was introduced by Director Bharathiraja, who helped and taught me to listen to scripts, decide, and also learn to say no. It was a learning process, and I always had mentors like him. Mani Ratnam's 1986 film Mouna Raagam is very close to my heart. Nobody wanted to do it. It was the first film in my career where the performance was very realistic. I'm very passionate about filmmaking. It took me 18 years to make my first film. I did not plan to become a director. It just happened.”

Sharing her journey and experience of working with different languages, she added, “Tooth Pari, a Netflix series, challenged me as an actor. The story has changed, storytelling has changed, filmmaking, and aspects of filmmaking have changed. Society has transformed in many ways which has brought a change in the film industry. My father is a retired army officer. We moved to places from Mathura, Dehradun, Hyderabad, and Kashmir, all over India. You tend to adapt easily. I didn’t have an accent, and I was not really fluent in any language. It took me time to understand languages.”

These multi-faceted sessions during the Summit celebrated India's artistic and cinematic achievements, reminding of the incredible depth and diversity found within the country's cultural landscape.

The Southern Rising' Summit was conceptualized and instituted by ABP Network as a tribute to the exceptional growth, cultural opulence, and societal harmony exemplified by the southern states of India.  It aimed to celebrate the spirit and richness of southern states, united on a singular mission of driving a transformative journey for India. The summit witnessed profound deliberations and sharing of insights by the movers and shakers of South Indian states and Union Territories.

The new school trap beat revels in a snazzy yet rustic vibe, and combines catchy lyrics with groovy music to celebrate the power of Punjabi spirit. Street Cred, the fourth melody, is a raw and rousing track that is powered by Aakash’s musical mastery. With an enigmatic charm that is second to none, the melody raps its way into our heart.

Kadwa Sach, the fifth song, is a towering tribute to the sounds of Detroit, but with a local flavor of its own. Both DRV and Boyblanck exude a sense of suave pride in the lyrics, as they revel in their rapid rise in the opulent track.  With it comes to the sixth track, Court Kacheri is a groove filled gem that brings a peppy flow, thumping drums and punchy base to the fore. The song also harbors a subtle message about the violence brimming inside many institutions.

Last but never the least, Akela, the final song in the album, leaves listeners on a poignant and poetic high. The first ever song DRV and Boyblanck made together, it encapsulates the ‘life coming full circle’ moment for the two musicians, as they take us on a bittersweet ride through their journey filled with smug gatekeepers and constant hurdles before they changed the game.

Hailing from vibrant Delhi, DRV has ignited the hip-hop scene with his distinctive vocal prowess and unmatched musical finesse. Boyblanck, a heartthrob of Noida's hip-hop scene, has already collaborated with renowned figures such as Anurag Kashyap. The artistes have perfectly woven their passionate, original and distinct styles into the Multani Mitti LP.

Talking about the release of the album, DRV said, “Multani Mitti is not just an album, it is a vote of love and thanks to all our diehard fans, as well as the supporters of independent music. We have woven many moods and colors into the tracks. The experience of crafting this LP has been nothing but magical. May it be joining hands with Boyblanck, or working with a label as special as Artiste First; Multani Mitti is a memorable milestone in more ways than one”.

Sharing his thoughts on the release, Boyblanck said, “It is not often that one gets to hear an album as diverse as Multani Mitti. Right from the very beginning, DRV and I had envisioned a very unique musical offering, and I am more than elated to have brought the vision into fruition with the help of Artiste First. Fans will get a truly original experience while pressing play, and will get lost into a groovy ocean till Multani Mitti ends”.

Commenting on their latest release, Rohit Sobti, Founder, Artiste First, said, “The biggest USP of Multani Mitti is their connection to the Mitti. Each track has its own individual vibe, peppy lyrics and groovy beats. DRV, BoyBlanc, Bombay The Artist and other featuring artiste have a vibe of their own”.

While DRV and Boyblanck are rising names in the independent music scene, Artiste First is the prime platform for passionate talents. The three forces have come together to give fans an album for the ages with Multani Mitti. The Multani Mitti LP is now available on all leading platforms.

Bebo takes over Goibibo’s socials – changes profile name to Goibebo

Goibibo, one of India’s leading travel brands, stands for its youth-oriented offerings and campaigns. So, when it came to choosing the new face for the brand, Goibibo went back to the recommendations made by its core audience set.

In a stellar illustration of two-way communication between a brand and its audience, Goibibo announces Kareena Kapoor Khan aka Bebo as its new brand ambassador. This announcement coincides with the launch of Goibibo’s new campaign - Hotels aise on Goibibo, full marks by Bebo’ – and a new adapted social media identity. The brand integrates cues from the actor’s most memorable roles and her name in real life to its own personality thereby converging the brand and the brand ambassador like never before.

To bolster the announcement, Goibibo has also launched a new brand film that gives voice to the main character energy of every Indian traveller with Kareena’s famous ‘Poo’ as the mouthpiece.  Raj Rishi Singh, Chief Marketing Officer, Goibibo further explains, “We all have a main character energy to our personalities which becomes especially prominent when we are on our travel breaks. With Kareena Kapoor Khan, the brand not only gives representation to this facet of our personality but also seamlessly integrates the brand and the ambassador into a cohesive voice.  Our larger campaign speaks to the evolving expectations of Indian travellers and the increasing expectations from all operators in the space. We are hopeful that our audience will be as excited as we are for this new chapter for Goibibo.”

Kareena Kapoor Khan said, “It's such a delight to be the new face of Goibibo, or should we call it 'Goibebo'? Among all the roles I've played on screen, Poo has been one character that has been an all-time audience favourite, even after all these years! It’s fascinating to see how Goibibo has taken such a beloved character and infused it into their new, fun campaign. Becoming Poo again, twenty years later, was such fun and it reminded me that there's a bit of 'Poo' in every Indian traveller… after all, who doesn’t want to have the best holiday! So, what are you waiting for? Because ‘Poo’ has already given her seal of approval!”

Goibibo stands firmly committed to maintaining impeccable standards and the latest campaign speaks to this goal. Bebo’s charisma, enduring popularity and high-standards perfectly align with Goibibo's mission to make sure accommodation listed on the platform are authentic, and there is no expectation and delivery mismatch.  Whether it's Poo, or an everyman, with Goibibo one can rest assured with 'Bebo’s' seal of approval. The film has been conceptualised by Talented and executed by Dharma 2.0.

Priyanka Borah, Founding Partner, and Binaifer Dulani, Founding Member & Creative, Talented said, “When we uncovered that the Indian consumer wants to be treated like a main character, from the movies, when on vacation - it instantly connected the dots for us, and gave birth to Goibebo. While the Poo character is iconic and has been leveraged in different ways, the strategic soundness makes this special, and its familiarity in a new context makes it memorable.”

Punit Malhotra, Founder, Dharma 2.0 said, “There is an inherent stickiness to ‘goibibo’ and ‘bebo’ that will stay in the mind of the audiences. Poo is an unforgettable character, and it's an honour to revive her quintessential sassiness, in a brand-new context to speak to the Indian masses.”

Commenting on the campaign, Raj Rishi Singh, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Business Officer -Corporate, MakeMyTrip, said, “The fever pitch around cricket gave us an optimal opportunity to showcase the meticulous quality check mechanisms MakeMyTrip has put in place for our alternate accommodations category. We always approach business from a problem-solving mindset, and who better to communicate this than genuine globetrotters such as our cricket superfans, who share the same passion for travel as they do for the game.”

MakeMyTrip stands out for providing a unique and trustworthy experience by redefining industry standards and ensuring travellers can access the best accommodations across price points. The twin values of 'Uniqueness' and 'Trust' also carry through to the brand's campaigns. The first leg of campaign deployment caught the nation’s attention through a print outreach. Marathi Film Association launched in Mumbai: Babasaheb Patil appointed as Maharashtra President

Maharashtra is the leading state in the film industry where millions of actors, technicians and crew work together in bringing the best of the film work to the industry. While there have been various organizations working for the interest of the artist and technicians, a new film association namely the Marathi Chitrapat Association (MCA) has been added to this. The very first meeting of the Marathi Film Association was held today at the association’s Mumbai office where all the board of directors unanimously appointed Babasaheb Patil as the president of Maharashtra. Same time, Chandrakant Vispute has been unanimously appointed as the Mumbai President.

Both the presidents have been appointed by the founder president Prashant Mankar and their appointment letters have been given to them in this regard. Similarly, other directors were also been given major positions with responsibilities which include Jayesh Jagad as media in-charge, Prof. Dr. Mohan Das as Head of International Film Festivals, Sriranjan Sawant as head of marketing, Sandesh Gour as head of Film Artist coordination and Bandubhau Ambuskar as Buldana president. A total of 15 directors were registered including Shyam Kshirsagar, Jayesh Jagad, Niranjan Sawant, Nitin Dhavane Patil, Praveen Taiyade, Chandrakant Vispute, Prof. Dr. Mohan Das, Sandesh Gour, Sunil Shirsat, Praveen Hatkar, Sumit Ambhore, Bandubhau Ambuskar, Chandrakant Vispute, Babasaheb Patil, Narendra Khawale, Ramesh Gavai, Jay Diwakar, Pankaj Sehgal, Surekha Gawande and Prashant Mankar.

With a focus to work continuously for the prosperity of Marathi Cinema, the Marathi Chitrapat Association (MCA) will strive for the betterment of all its members - right from the filmmaker to the technician and from the technician to the backstage artist. In this first meeting, some very important issues regarding the same and of the future progress of the Marathi Chitrapat Association have been discussed.

One of the key issues raised by MCA is asking for the status of the Marathi film industry to be accorded as an industry with a labour office and a union registered in that context. Bringing cinema artists and technicians through the union under one umbrella, it resolves to solve all labour issues in that context. The MCA also demands that the oppressive conditions imposed by the government in the case of single theatres should be relaxed and new permission should be given to those theatre owners to start new industries and businesses. It also demanded that a memorial of Vithabai Narayangaonkar should be erected at Narayangaon in Junnar, as well as establish the Vithabai Narayangaonkar Economic Development Corporation.

Apart from these, the MCA wants that an Artist Bhavan should be built for scores of artists that come to Mumbai, Pune for shooting. Just as the banner of tamasha artists who go from village to village for yatra fairs gets subsidy from the government on a commercial level, professionals that are working regularly for those banners should also get subsidy from the government. It also demands that the pension given to old artistes by Maharashtra government should be increased. Also training of backstage artists required by theatre and film industries should be started through ITI and they should be recognized as skilled workers. It also opines that concessions should be made available in railways and buses to the artistes of Maharashtra, similar to that of notified journalists.

In Gharkul Yojana, artists should be given priority in rural areas on the ground of MHADA. Artists are often deprived of loans because they do not have any kind of substantial income proof. Therefore, it was mainly decided in the meeting that Marathi Film Association will also build a bank dedicated to artists in the coming time.

Regarding the Marathi film subsidy amount, the MCA is of the opinion that it should be increased as per A & B category. Similarly, a grace subsidy should be arranged to help the financial condition of the producer by introducing C grade. This is sure to help the first-time filmmakers for film production. It was also announced that the MCA will start an OTP platform in near future as well as organize an international film festival on behalf of the Marathi Film Association.

The Marathi Chitrapat Association launched its head office in Mumbai, but it is soon planning to open offices in important cities like Pune, Sambhaji Nagar, Nashik, Akola, Nagpur, Amravati, Kolhapur, etc. Membership registration to the association is expected to start soon and keeping in mind the issues faced by artists and film makers due to the high costs of the other association fees, the MCA has decided to keep a nominal registration fee of Rs.500/- for artists and Rs.1000/- for banner registration for the first 500 entries.

Tarakkiyan : A fresh Punjabi hip hop vibe celebrating success in style

To the ones who succeed in style, the ones staying humble all the while! Artiste First’s latest release is a funky, cool anthem that pays an ode to all the hard-working hustlers of the world.  Featuring talented musicians DRV, Boyblanck and Bombay The Artist, ‘Tarakkiyan’ is Artiste First’s biggest hip-hop production to date.

Part of DRV and Boyblanck’s Multani Mitti album, Tarakkiyan, is a new school modern trap beat those revels in a snazzy yet rustic vibe. Written and performed by DRV and Boyblanck, with Bombay The Artist lending guest vocals, this trendy melody has many musical surprises up its sleeve. While the song’s title translates into success, it delivers the message of staying grounded and simple no matter how high the success is. With catchy lyrics that breathe fire and groovy music that captures Punjabi panache, Tarakkiyan has style, substance and instant repeat value.

It’s not just the music that stands apart! Tarakkiyan also boasts of a visually rich music video created on a grand and lush scale, music produced by Babywxve. The Artiste First production sees DRV and Boyblanck, as well as Bombay The Artist, at their dapper best as they vibe on the streets of Dubai. Showcasing an array of captivating locations in the Gulf city, the video is a suave spectacle of luxury, sand and sea. Directed by Aavrit Bagga, the music video reflects the epic scale of the song.

Delhi-based rapper DRV has set the hip-hop scene ablaze with his unique vocals and supreme melodies, while Noida native Boyblanck is a hip-hop heartthrob who has already worked with the likes of Anurag Kashyap. The dynamic duo has crafted a hip-hop tune for the ages with Tarakkiyan.

Talking about his latest song, DRV said, “Tarakkiyan is a song that comes from a very personal space. In my whirlwind musical journey, I’ve wholeheartedly embraced my highs, but my beliefs have also led me to stay humble, and that is the essence we wanted to imbibe in this track. Tarakkiyan will not just resonate with hip hop fans, but anybody who has worked their way to the top, never forgetting their roots”.

Sharing his thoughts on the track, Boyblanck said, “There are some tunes that resonate with you on a deeper level, and that is exactly what Tarakkiyan did with me. I’ve always been someone who counts their blessings after every new milestone; to be able to convey this message through my art has been an extremely satisfying experience”.

The collaboration of DRV, Boyblanck and Bombay The Artist makes it very unique - all three have different style of music / singing and the best of it creates Tarakkiyan. This is our drive song from the Album Multani Mitti. Audiophiles will really embrace the zest and energy of this track”.

Celebrating success is important, but what makes 'Tarakkiyan' truly special is its message of humility in the face of achievement. In this fast-paced world, it's easy to lose sight of where you came from. 'Tarakkiyan' reminds us to stay grounded, to appreciate the journey, and to never forget the values that got us here. Collaborating with DRV and Boyblanck on this project has allowed me to blend my style with theirs, creating something unique and powerful. The music video, set against the backdrop of Dubai's breathtaking scenery, adds an extra layer of grandeur to the song. 'Tarakkiyan' is more than just music; it's a reflection of our personal journeys, and I hope it resonates deeply with our audience, inspiring them to reach for the stars while keeping their feet firmly on the ground,” said Bombay The Artist.

May it be the sublime song or the eye-popping music video, Tarakkiyan is tailor-made to win over diehard fans of indie hip-hop in more ways than one.
