JP Dutta - The maker of the best war based films goes International

The maker of the best war based films no one can forget his best ever war film in bollywood ‘Border’ Mr. J. P. Dutta is gearing up for another action with two war films of which one will be an international project.

J.P. Dutta is making on an international scale for a global audience. This is inspired by the Battle of Saragarhi fought before the Tirah Campaign on September 12, 1897, when 21 Sikhs of the 36th Sikh of British India defended an army post against 10,000 Afridi and the Orakzai tribesmen in the North-West Frontier Province, now in Pakistan. "Since the story touches on the relationship between the Sikh soldiers and the British officers commanding the battalion, I need a huge British involvement, an international cast and crew. I've spoken to Hugh Dancy, the Hannibal TV star, and Remi Adefarasin, the cinematographer of Shekhar Kapur's Elizabeth and Steven Speilberg's mini-series Band of Brothers. I am in the midst of working on the logistics carefully before I can kickstart this project as it is very big scale. It can only take off after the other film," admitted Dutta. He is frequently visiting UK to lock the actors, supporting actors and the technicians from abroad.

Whereas the other film Dutta sir is working on is about the 1962 Indo-China War which is expected to roll in September in Ladakh and wrap up by November end. The film will feature biggies from the bollywood. The filmmaker says "I make realistic films so I want to stick to the time frame of the real war and shoot in real locations," pointing out that he has three scripts cleared by the Ministry of Defence on the three wars that were fought in '62, '65 and '71.  This film will have biggies of bollywood associated.

Way to look forward.

Actress Elli Avram, fresh from the success of Abbas Mastan’s film ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’ celebrated Christmas with children from Smile Foundation at Gaylord’s Bake Shop joining the popular heritage restaurant in treating them to a range of delicious goodies while drawing attention to the immense need for increasing support and awareness on the issue of education of the girl child.  The event was an initiative with the Smile Foundation with the intention of helping raise awareness about the importance of educating the girl child and the need of education in every child’s life to help eradicate poverty, ignorance and prejudice.

I support the great work that Smile Foundation is doing, especially with respect to the education of the girl child. Christmas is a time for celebration and giving and it is great if we can all open our hearts and support this much needed cause.”

“We at Gaylord support the cause of education of the underprivileged girl child and are happy to host this event and support Elli in bringing Christmas cheer to the children at Smile.” Said Noel D’Souza, General Manager, Gaylord, Mumbai.

Filmsaaz all set for its ninth edition in 2016

A short film festival organised by the Film Club of the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University, Filmsaaz was conceived in order to give the budding filmmakers a platform to showcase their talents.

The club itself was established in the academic year 1973-74 with the aim to promote cinematic culture among the students. Since its birth, the film club has been serving as the platform for students to explore the creative world of cinema.

It was only in 2008 that the Film Club members mooted to organise its own film festival, albeit only for short films that was slowly but securely gaining momentum. Once everyone gave their thumbs up to the idea, the First edition of the festival was successfully held from 28-30 March, 2008. Ace theatre and film artist Tom Walter was the chief guest and since then is being held annually as a national short film festival. Right from its inception, the festival had two categories i.e. national and local. National categories were for all and the local categories were restricted to filmmakers from Aligarh alone.

But, with times, the need to spread worldwide and gain recognition as well as get international films for our discerning audiences was on the cards. And with the sixth edition i.e. 6th Filmsaaz which was held from 3-5 March, 2013 the festival went international. This 6th edition transformed the national festival into an international one. The local categories were abolished totally to pave way for its international avatar. Now only international and national categories are there. The festival received 28 international and 102 national entries in all categories. Nawazuddin Sidddiqui was the chief guest for that particular edition.

The festival has witnessed several celebrities as the chief guest in the past in its valedictory session like Muzaffar Ali in the 2nd, Imtiaz Ali in the 3rd, Sudhir Mishra in the 4th, Pitobash Tripathy in the 5th, Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the 6th, Tigmasnhu Dhulia in the 7th and Ritesh Batra in the 8th.

So far the festival has completed its eighth edition in the year 2015 and preparing for its ninth in 2016. The festival has given wings to lot of budding film makers. It is the only short film festival organised by student’s body of a university in India.

Spearheading towards success: The indomitable Pranshu Kulshreshtha

Much of the mystery about November is solved when we learn that it was the ninth month of the ancient Roman calendar. Yes, it retained its name (from the Latin novem meaning "nine") when January and February were added to the Roman calendar. This is one month that has spring in the Southern Hemisphere and autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. This goes to say much about the persons born in this month. While November is often looked upon with the fiery Scorpios ruling the month, it’s the cool quotient Saggitarius that rules subtly.

Truth seekers, adventurers, lovers of travel, fun loving, generous and extremely friendly, Sagittarians are great company because they are interested in everything and everyone. Broad-minded and lacking in prejudice, Sagittarians with their optimism and humour, are often the life and soul of a party. They very rarely tell lies, in fact they’re so open about everything, and the whole world knows what they’re up to. They have marvelous intuitions that they should take notice of. They’re pretty clever because they’re so interested in everything. They can be a bit rude but that’s only because they’re very honest and will say exactly what they think. They love travel, fast cars and horse riding. They also love spending money, so a credit card should be avoided.

They can be, fanatics yet atheists, and tactless yet serious! Subjects like philosophy, education, religion, mysticism, occult, medicine engross and attract Archers. No wonder many Sagittarius-born make good inventors or discovers. Self confident, high spirited, curious and always ready to explore, they also make good advisers, teachers and social bees Despite all this, their intellectualism is profound and this is all one would see in our November star - Pranshu Kulshreshtha.

A positive person who has a bright outlook on life no matter how upsetting his current situation might be, Pranshu's optimistic and generous spirit makes him a pleasure to have around. According to Kahlil Gibran “March on… do not tarry..”, Pranshu is spearheading towards success as he has the spunk and much in keeping with the symbolic propulsion of a True Sagittarian. We wish him all the best. And we suggest you check the last models in waiting as the last month of the year unfolds. Enjoy!

Tahir loves shades of grey

The young and handsome Tahir Raj Bhasin, who made his debut with a negative role in the Rani Mukerji-starrer Mardaani, will soon be seen essaying another grey character in director Abhinay Deo's upcoming action-thriller Force 2.

Tahir changed the perception of Bollywood villains when he played the role of the suave Karan Rastogi. At present, Tahir is busy shooting for action sequences as part of a 40-day schedule for Force 2 in Budapest, Hungary. In Force 2, viewers will soon see Tahir unfold his other shades of grey.

When asked about being typecast as a villain he said, “Not at all. It is a great time for grey characters [in the Hindi film industry]. They have evolved, and have more dimensions now. The actors I admire, like Irrfan Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, achieved fame by doing negative roles. Irrfan did Haasil (2003), while Shah Rukh did Darr (1993). I think black and white villains, like Gabbar and Mogambo, are slowly fading out."

Tahir was quick to add that off screen he is nothing like the on screen characters he plays. "I am a Shah Rukh Khan romantic at heart. Someday, I will do a traditional romantic role. But everything takes its own course.”

Look who's playing Virat Kohli

Saqib Saleem, who bats for Sohail Khan's Mumbai Heroes in the Celebrity Cricket League, admits that if not an actor, he would have become a cricketer. So, when Rohit Dhawan offered him the role of an aggressive, contemporary batsman in his upcoming action-adventure, Dishoom, Saqib immediately agreed.

Buzz is this cricketer is modelled on Virat Kohli? "He could be Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina or Rohit Sharma," says Saqib, who has already shot for four days. "The major cricketing portions will be shot during the Abu Dhabi schedule with the UAE cricket team, with whom I will train as well. I'll be playing a lot of cricket, hitting a few sixes too. My biggest fear is that the audience will say that I acted well, but played bad cricket," he laughs. Saqib, who played for the Under-19 team in Delhi and captained his college team, reveals that Rohit has been monitoring his look for the film. "He narrated the entire script to me, focussing on the dramatic scenes. He is the kind of director who loves to pamper his actors. And I'm sure there's lots of 'me' in the film," Saqib beams.

Gul Panag Attends Exclusive Triumph Bike launch In London

Gul Panag is well known as the "Biker Girl" in India. The actress had created waves, choosing to ride in the side cart of a bike with hubby as her vehicle of choice right after her wedding, from the mandap to home! With her genuine passion and interest in all things auto, it's not surprising that auto and bike brands love the actress, and that she is on may car and bike award juries too.

But now this seems to have crossed borders, with Gul being invited to a very exclusive event by super-bike maker - Triumph who have finally unveiled their all-new 1199cc Triumph Thruxton and Thruxton R, the range-topping duo that herald the arrival of a completely new collection of five Bonnevilles. starting from the entry-level all-new Street Twin, two ‘classic’ Bonnevilles, and the new Thruxton models. A few other international celebrities present at the event were Edris Alba, Carl Fogarty, Tom Hardy, Gillian Anderson, Reggie Yates, Charlie Boman

"All girls in my family ride bikes. I've grown up with this being the done thing. I first rode a bike when I was 16.  I had a cousin in the Army who’d left a Bullet behind. That was the summer I learned to ride,” she says.

Dressed in custom-made Gauri Nainika gown, Gul certainly upped the style quotient at the event, which was attended by a host of international celebrities.

Gul said, “It was like being a kid in a candy shop. The new Bonnies look awesome – while not losing the classic appeal. I feel very honoured to be in the UK as a special guest of Triumph and share the excitement of the new launches.’

Top 5 movies to enjoy this Halloween

We’ve all spent many summers in our childhood listening to scary stories, or playing dark house and some of us have even tried our hand at Ouija boards. Its Halloween time and time to watch some fun scary movies. Fear is fun, especially when Halloween arrives. With the release of ‘Goosebumps’ starring the one and only Jack Black, get ready for this hilariously spine-tingling movie as some unusual creatures from Goosebumps book series jump from the page to Indian screens on October 30th, 2015 in 3D and 2D. The film will enjoy a wide release in English, Hindi and Tamil. Apart from this, here are the ‘Top 5 movies’ to enjoy this Halloween’

Goosebumps: Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange…

He is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

Harry Potter: This movie series can be watched any time of the year, but during Halloween it’s all the more special, with all the magic, the beasts, the mystery and the constant threat to life. Although, the final instalment, The Deathly Hallows is probably the creepiest, we would recommend The Prisoner Of Azkaban because of the appearance of the soul sucking Dementors.

Casper: Watching this adorable, friendly ghost and his cute antics is a rite of passage for all kids. It’s the one ghost you’ll cheer on and fall in love with. There’s a bit of everything in this film, from making friends, to horror and adventure, to beating up the bad ghosts, and a first kiss too!

Halloween Town: Witches and Halloween go hand in hand, and that’s what makes this movie special. It also has three sequels, so there’s plenty more fun to be had. It’s about little Marnie Piper who is obsessed with Halloween, and eventually discovers that she is a witch. She seems to be made of the same cloth as our favourite Hermoine Granger, because she helps save a town of other supernatural creatures.

Nightmare before Christmas: Here’s another film dreamed up by the amazing Tim Burton. It tells the story of Jack Skellington who is the King of Halloween and is tired of staging Halloween festivities year after year, so when he finds a door to Christmas Town, he decides to try his hand at enjoying a holiday instead. Best of all, it’s a musical, so you can sing-a-long and get your creep on! And if you love this film, you’ll have an excuse to watch it for Christmas as well.

So get going and enjoy these top 5 fun and creepy movies to enjoy this Halloween with your families.

‘Rao’ On Set! Ranveer Renames Himself for “Bajirao Mastani’

Playing a character in a period drama requires an actor to live and breathe in a different era altogether. It’s because of this that Ranveer Singh is trying unusual ways to ensure that he delivers better than his best as Peshwa Bajirao. One such method is to call him ‘Rao’ instead of Ranveer Singh on set.

In playing Peshwa Bajirao, Ranveer Singh has taken on a once in a lifetime role; that of a fearsome Maratha warrior and a just king who is still remembered in folktales. Lots have been said about his physical & mental preparation for this part.

In order to ensure that he stays focused while shooting, Ranveer has surprised his assistant directors with an odd request. He has asked everyone to call him ‘Rao’ and address him with the name of his character. While his request has let to some good-natured leg pulling on set, Ranveer insists that this be the practice. Says a source, “This helps him stay in character & helps him not be reminded that he is Ranveer Singh. So when he is on set he is fully in character.”

Even while speaking on walkie-talkies, as assistants tend to do while a shoot is on, they call him Rao. So far, this mental shift into this historical character has worked for him, even though it’s not commonly done.

Clearly, Ranveer is pushing himself beyond the call of duty to bring alive the magic & might of ‘Bajirao Mastani’.

After 32 days of hectic shoot in various parts of Mumbai and Delhi, “Bhanwarey” starring Shaurya Singh, Karan Thakur, Jashan Singh Kohli and Priyanka Shukla, has completed its final schedule. The final schedule for the movie was shot at a location near Sainik Farms, Delhi.

With this movie, Shaurya Singh, Karan Thakur, Jashan Singh Kohli and Priyanka Shukla are making their foray from the world of Television. Jashan Singh Kohli who started off with the sexy siren Mallika Sherawat in the reality show "The Bachelorette India - Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika" was also seen in the Big Magic comedy show "Total Naadaniyaan".

Speaking about the film, producer director Shaurya Singh (who has also played one of the pivotal roles in the movie) says, “We are now just left with two song sequences which we are planning to shoot in the beautiful city of Chandigarh. The city has a certain feel to it which goes with the theme of the movie.”

The film, a dark comedy started rolling in the beginning of May 2015 and just got complete recently. Shaurya said all this was possible because of the support from his team. It took a bit longer time to complete the film as the team was small and working on a small and tighter budget left us with little options and we needed lot of planning to get things right.

Prashant Sehgal, the DOP of the film who has to his credit feature films like Hola Venky, The Owner (Guinness Book Record for most number of filmmakers joining hands for a feature film) and at least 60 short films said, “This was really an enriching experience as the cast was big and we had to do shots planning in accordance with the theme of the movie not making it too loud a comedy for the masses. We were immensely supported by our production team to make this happen.”

The film’s music is being done at Mumbai and one of the trademark songs “Pen Chodd” has been beautifully crafted by Music Composer/Director duo Sourabh Gourav i.e Sourabh Chatterji and Gourav Ratnakar who originally hail from Bhilai and are swiftly making their mark in the industry with their mind blowing compositions.

Krishan Hooda’s “Rebellious Flower” wins Special Mention Jury Award at Salento International Film Festival, Tricase, Italy

Krishan Hooda’s directorial Rebellious Flower won the Special Mention Jury Award at Salento International Film Festival held in Tricase, Italy 2015. The film was a closing night film and the screening was graced by Indian Ambassador to Italy Mr. Basant Gupta. Krishan Hooda officially represented India in Italy.

As reported by Italian news media “Rebellious Flower is a contribution to the knowledge of the personal biography of a man (Osho) who represented a philosophical reference far beyond the borders of his country, and that brings us back to the ancient roots of certain philosophy / spirituality of the ancient ‘West mixed Orient”.

Rebellious Flower is a bouquet of handpicked flowers from the garden of an unending celebration. Inspired on the life of Osho, this is a first film ever made on the spiritual guru - Rajneesh Osho.

The film narrates the life of Raja in his adolescence and youth and moreover a rebellion in him, who is keen to unearth the answers beneath the surface of facts, which are unacceptable to others. It beautifully narrates the transition Raja goes through in the phase of enlightenment and sanctity.

His childhood mentor his maternal grandmother (nani) who nurtures his childhood and a strong pillar in his learning phase is very well depicted in the film. Their bond, love and unsaid understanding are soothing therapies of emotional connect.

Rebellious Flower is an anecdote which takes on the path of beliefs, Raja resolves to walk on. In retrospect he surmises that existence is inevitably attained by purely accepting the simplicity of subconscious with the help of his mentors

He embarks on a journey to understand the beauty that lies behind the unexpressed phrases of human perception and this is how he transforms to be a rebellious flower to share the essence and scent of its being, unconditionally.

Salento International Film Festival celebrates real cinema around the world and the event witnessed many Italian celebrities and filmmakers, one of them was Marco Leonardi – Once upon a time in Mexico fame. The event was held in Piazza Pisanelli, in the heart of the Historic Centre of Tricase from 4th September to 12th September 2015.

“Our work was liked and appreciated by everyone. I always wanted 'Rebellious Flower' should speak for itself and it spoke volumes. We could hear that with the accolade we received” said director Krishan Hooda.
