After Sridevi working with wife Gauri Shinde, Arjun Kapoor signed by Balki

Arjun Kapoor's worked with mostly new and young directors till date but now he is set to enter the big league. The actor has just been signed by eminent filmmaker Balki of Paa and Cheeni Kum fame for his next big venture. It's billed to be a romantic comedy and after playing happy-go-lucky college goers and angry young rebels, Arjun is looking forward to something absolutely new. Here's to the fresh and new Arjun-Balki combo!

High Street Phoenix hosted the first edition of AweStrung

High Street Phoenix hosted the first edition of their new monthly property AweStrung with a scintillating performance by the Karsh Kale Collective SoundSystem featuring Randolph Correia a.k.a. FUNC, Singers Apeksha Dandekar & Talia Bentson, Beatboxer Yungraj, Tabla-player Karan and Sitar maestro Azeem Ahmen Alvi.

In the audience was master auteur Anurag Kashyap who was seen chatting with the crowd and posing for pictures. The show was curated by Sameer "Daddy" Malhotra who was present through the night. The evening also saw attendance from model & actor Teena Singh and Amitabh Nanda.

AweStrung will see one iconic star from the music space perform live once a month at High Street Phoenix.

Dil Dhadakne Do has Ranveer the chameleon

In an industry where every big star is trying to cash in on his last successful screen avatar, Ranveer Singh thrives on his versatility. Right from his first film to his latest, the star actor has been able to create a new character with a new look in each of his movies. That's why people still remember him from Band Baaja Baaraat and can't have enough of him in the trailer of Dil Dhadakne Do.

After the fun and casual look of Bittoo Sharma in his debut flick, Ranveer had switched a suave and slimy con man in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. Then he completely deconstructed his image by playing the quiet and calculating romantic Varun in Vikramaditya Motwane's Lootera. Next it was back to his wild and rustic self playing Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Romeo in Ram-Leela. Then came the macho but dripping with passion Bikram in Gunday. Kill Dil's Dev was sculpted in boyish charm. And now Dil Dhadakne Do has Ranveer playing Kabir, who from the trailer seems like a mix of nice and naughty, playful yet romantic.

It's really rare to find an actor like Ranveer who works so hard to make each and every character stand out, in terms of look and in terms of presence. Here's to many more Ranveers in the coming years.

Multitasker Anushka juggles her two film promotions

What do you do when you are the leading lady of two of the biggest films of the year releasing within just 3 weeks of one another? Well, if you are Anushka Sharma, you make sure both the films get equal attention and are promoted to the fullest.

Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, which stars Anushka opposite Ranbir Kapoor, releases on May 15, and Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do, which stars Anushka opposite Ranveer Singh, releases on June 5. Despite this manic scenario, Anushka is trying her best to make sure both films get her dates for promotion. She is a pro by now, with PK and NH10 releasing not too far apart in the recent past. The Bollywood star also is quite a multitasker having shot for several films last year, moving seamlessly from one to the other.

But juggling time for Bombay Velvet and Dil Dhadakne Do will be trickier for the actress given she also has to start rehearsals for her IIFA performance in the first week of June. Here's wishing her luck and lots of energy!

I have collaborated with him earlier on a couple of projects and have greatly enjoyed working with him. I take this opportunity as a challenge to evolve Manish’s vision of turning Drishyam into an integrated motion picture studio that’s synonymous with high quality content which travels far and wide and also engages audiences back home.”, says Shiladitya Bora.

'Unfreedom' director's "Freedom" curtailed: Calls for Freedom of Expression

After 'Unfreedom' was banned by the Censor Board in India from releasing in India, its director Raj Amit Kumar has released a video appealing to everyone to sign a petition addressed to the Prime Minister of India to protect rights of freedom of expression of all Indian citizens. The video, which was uploaded on Youtube few days back, questions the functioning of Censor Board and the way it passes imbecile decisions without batting an eyelid.

In the video, filmmaker Raj Amit Kumar states that the Censor Board should 'rate' or 'certify' a movie instead of banning and offering cuts. He also challenges that he will keep sending these signed petitions to PMO and Censor board until there is a real change.

Raj Amit Kumar’s movie 'Unfreedom' juxtaposes two powerful and unflinching contemporary stories about religious fundamentalism and intolerance. Shifting between New York and New Delhi, one tale follows a Muslim terrorist who kidnaps a liberal Muslim scholar in order to silence him, while the other charts the travails of a young woman whose devout father tries to force her into an arranged marriage, which she resists because she is secretly in love with another woman. The four characters come face to face with gruesome acts of violence in battles of identity, sexuality, religion, love, and family.

Kumar is seeking support from everyone who believes in freedom of speech. In order for this petition campaign to be successful, and for a real change to happen for all Indians, the filmmaker seeks support and is urging everyone to sign up for this petition and support #Unfreedom campaign against censorship in India.

To sign up for this petition and support #Unfreedom campaign against censorship in India, here is the link to the video. Go ahead and sign if you believe in freedom of speech.

"Defeat failure and only then will success kiss you," says Rajat Saluja

Interested in modeling/acting, this week's model cum actor is Saharanpur based Rajat Saluja who believes in living each and every moment of his life. This happy go lucky lad has walked the ramp and also faced the camera for ads & TVC. Keen to pursue a career in acting, he is a regular at the gym and has a well toned body. But he's got a laddish quality to him, and doesn't come across as aggressive or intimidating, traits that majority of directors can tap into. Always living by his principles, his family, his relationships and his best friends hold equal importance for him. “Its inherent qualities like these that truly personify the depth and the emotions within me that am sure to bring in the emotional nuances in a character,” Rajat says.

Well versed in acting and dancing, Rajat says he wants that one chance to play something completely against the grain. It's not said with a wink; he's not trying to be cheeky or macho. He's a young actor, on the brink of a step up in his career and is ready to expand his range. Idolising Salman Khan, he wants to do powerful and meaty roles - be it in a serial, short film or a movie. Ask him about his ambitions, and he just says what seems obvious - He's going to take every good opportunity that comes his way. And he's got only one ambition and delivers his thoughts on it quite bluntly: "To keep working hard till the sunset of my life."

With a focus to see himself on the screen and make a mark, Rajat wants to do all sorts of work - be it a movie, TV serials or a short film. He is also open to do ads, print media and ramp walk too. “I know it’s a long struggle out there. And everyone including me have been defeated sometime or the other. But success comes to those who rise above defeat and understand how to deal with it. I realized that defeat isn't a real thing - it’s just an illusion! And only those who are not afraid to keep trying, not ready to give up and forget what failure means, can only they give victory a shot. And I will…!”

Even we too at Films & TV World feel that this lad has all the grit and determination to make it big. We too wish him all the best. To view his profile, click: http://www.filmsntv.com/p/models.html

In case, you would like to be featured on this “Model of the week” page in our series, mail your portfolios with your contact details on studiofilmcafe@gmail.com. And ya, no need to get disappointed if you don't find yourself in the coming week. Who knows, it might be your turn next... Cheers!!

Comedy King Paresh Rawal to rule again

There are very few actors in Bollywood who have the art to leave the audience rolling with laughter and versatile actor Paresh Rawal accomplishes this feat every time he is seen on the silver screen.

Having dabbled with a variety of roles successfully in his career spanning over three decades, Paresh Rawal excelled in playing hilarious characters with unmatchable comic timing.

Be it creating a new brand of comedy essaying the character of Baburao in Hera Pheri or atheist Kanjibhai in OMG - Oh! My God, Paresh Rawal has not just infused life and soul into characters but also made them memorable for all movie buffs.

Continuing the comic streak, the prolific actor is all set to tickle your funny bone and scratch your conscience with some very deep questions disguised as witty one-liners in his upcoming satirical film Dharam Sankat Mein. This time, Paresh Rawal - who will be seen playing a father, a maulwi and a pundit, all in one film - pairs up with stalwarts Naseeruddin Shah and Annu Kapoor in the story of a man torn by the dilemma of choosing between two religions.

In Dharam Sankat Mein, Paresh plays Dharampal, a man caught in an identity crisis of epic proportions! His entire belief system is shaken when documents from his departed mother’s locker reveal to him that instead of being what he believed himself to be - an average upper middle class Hindu - he was actually born to a Muslim family! Speaking about his role, Paresh Rawal said, “The film goes into a series of hilarious events that follows once I figure my true identity,” quips Rawal further adding, “Dharam Sankat Mein is an important film wherein a good message is being delivered through a rib tickling story.”

Talking about his illustrious film journey, Rawal added, “I’m fortunate to have got the opportunity to play interesting characters. I hope to continue entertaining the audience and my fans."

Presented and produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and also produced by Trigno Media, this situational comedy is all set to hit the theaters on 10th April, 2015.

Dinar Habib & Joy Bhattacharya : Two dashing models from two different Bengal

No! We are not pulling any April Fool’s Day jokes on anyone, but that is the first thing you think about when April comes around. Just like March, in like a lion, out like a lamb. Well, April comes in just plain lyin’. But we are not going to lie when we present two Dashing Models as the month cover from two different parts of Bengal. Yea, you read it right! One from West Bengal (India) and the other from East Bengal (now Bangladesh).

As Helena Christensen comments, “When you are modelling, you are creating a picture, a still life, perhaps something like a silent film. You convey emotion but you are only using your body” - this is what Dinar Habib of Bangladesh believes in.  Ask him if he is not tired of growing up in the public eye and having to pose repeatedly for his pictures and he asks rhetorically. “But being in front of the camera, is, yes; my passion and that’s what I always wanted to do.”

On the other hand, the indomitable Joy Bhattacharya based at Kolkata, West Bengal is all set for No Stopping as the burgeoning birth of new life in his career growth is set for an explosive expression. Speaking of being on the Films & TV World Calendar, he says: “I’m honored to be a part of it, honestly. It’s iconic. It’s [a campaign]. I see it all over at times and think I stand distinctly different. Its really cool to be a part of.”

We wish them all the best. And we suggest you check the other models in waiting too as every month unfolds. Enjoy!

The energetic and effervescent Ranveer Singh’s phenomenal covers

There are many facets to Ranveer Singh, as is evident by the diverse cover shoots that the actor has recently been a part of. Not only are each of the shoots varied but they also showcase a different aspect of his personality!

In the past many have pronounced Ranveer to be an energetic and effervescent personality but that is just one of the facets of his persona.Ranveer is a complete surprise package, switching between personas with great ease leaving his fans waiting with bated breath at what’s next!

As has been showcased in his various magazine interviews, he loves doing things differently and refuses to be typecast whether it is his fashion quotient (the lad has single handedly brought hats back into vogue), the roles he takes up, the brands he endorses or the way he endorses them! He relies on his instincts and does what resonates with him no matter the risk. Be it accepting a Bang Bang dare from Hrithik, Doing the Rex or then going completely cerebral at the India Today Conclave and mentoring the young achievers at the Forbes 30 Under 30 event, surprising the gathered crowd with an in-depth well thought out, engrossing yet unusually filmy presentation on the evolution of cinema.

So what’s next on Ranveer’s agenda you might ask? Well that’s something you never know when it comes to Ranveer Singh……the only guarantee you have, is  that it will be super exciting and different!!!!
