Directed
by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner,
Chhaava is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film, which hit theatres on February 14, has
earned critical acclaim and commercial success, grossing a remarkable ₹804.85
crore worldwide, including ₹599.2
crore from domestic ticket sales alone.
The
OTT announcement came via Netflix’s official Instagram handle today April 4,
featuring a striking poster and the caption: “Aale Raje aale. Witness a tale of
courage and glory etched in time. Watch Chhaava, out 11 April on Netflix.”
Vicky
Kaushal’s powerful portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj has been widely praised, with
the actor calling the role “an honour beyond words” and one of the most
fulfilling experiences of his career. Apart from Vicky, Chhaava also features a
stellar ensemble cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh
Rana, Vineet Kumar Singh, Divya Dutta, Neil Bhoopalam, and Diana Penty. The
film’s emotional weight is further amplified by a stirring soundtrack composed
by A.R. Rahman, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil.
In
just four weeks, the film climbed the ranks to become the third-highest
grossing Hindi film of all time, surpassing even Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan in
domestic earnings. Week-by-week, its box office performance remained
strong—collecting ₹219.25
crore in its first week, followed by ₹180.25 crore, ₹84.05
crore, and ₹55.95
crore in the subsequent weeks.
Producer
Dinesh Vijan expressed pride in the film’s journey: “Chhaava has been a labour

Netflix.”
