Sakshi Tanwar is making her
Bollywood debut with Sunny Deol in >>Mohalla
Assi<< and they’re both in never-seen-before avatars! The film’s apparently
leaked trailer that is doing the rounds on social media is garnering a lot of
attention due to the free use of abuses by all the characters. Lying in the
cans since 2012, Mohalla Assi is an upcoming Bollywood satirical film and also stars
Ravi Kishan, Saurabh Shukla, Mukesh Tiwari, Rajendra Gupta and others in
pivotal roles. The film is directed by Chandra Prakash Dwivedi who is most known for the television
epic Chanakya and the Urmila Matondkar starrer Pinjar (2003).
Set in the post-independence
period, the film is based in a famous and historical 'Mohalla' (locality) by
the ghat Assi, on the southern fringes of Banaras. The film is loosely based
on Dr. Kashinath Singh's popular Hindi novel “Kashi Ka Assi”, a satire on the commercialization
of the pilgrimage city, and fake gurus that lure foreign tourists.
In the film Sunny Deol is playing a poor
Brahmin Sanskrit teacher and an orthodox religious priest (Pundit) who is
extremely upset with foreigners who damage the Benaras ghats by smoking ‘ganja’
and ‘bhang’. While the promo looks interesting and tells the story of Banaras in
the post independence period, one can already sense the drama the censor board
is going to have over this. Sakshi Tanwar plays Sunny Deol’s wife in the film.
